Driving enjoyment on two wheels

Is there a greater feeling of freedom than riding through the vast landscape on a motorbike? The airstream rustles in your ears, your gaze falls on uniquely beautiful landscapes, destinations are quickly reached and the ride, for many, is the destination. For motorcyclists, a tour on two wheels is the best way to spend your time, the best way to travel. Of course, it takes some experience and equipment, but with the right preparation, hardly anything can go wrong.

Tours on site

Riding a motorbike is a passion, so even a route in your home region is a wonderful experience. You can forget about stress and everyday life, it's just you, your motorbike and maybe one or more companions – whether on the pillion, in the sidecar or on your own bike. Over winding roads through the mountains, along the coast, through national parks, past meadows and deserts. Whatever your preferences, there are numerous suitable routes all over the world to live out your passion: on an after-work or day route, a multi-day trip from A to B or several day routes from a fixed destination.

Multiday adventures

Numerous tour operators offer a wide variety of motorbike deals in different countries. You can rent a motorbike locally and save on transport. You can also visit training courses and parks in other places to improve your skills or try something different, e.g. in an off-road park.

And of course, there are fully organized motorbike routes. Whether it's through the Australian outback, the vast expanses of North America, the forests of Scandinavia, the deserts of Africa or a completely different landscape: why not travel with a friendly group and experienced tour guide. Going on a motorbike route together has many advantages, from socializing in the evenings to sharing tricks and riding skills to meeting new people.

For those who prefer to travel alone or with their established group, some providers offer prepackaged routes so you don't have to worry about accommodation, food or even luggage transport – just according to your own preferences. But a self-arranged route also has its charm, so what are you waiting for: Plan your route and hit the road!

Tips for beginners and returners

Tips for beginners and returners

If you are a beginner or a returning rider, there are a few things you should consider to really enjoy your time on the road.

  • Don't plan too long routes. Concentration and fitness need to be built up first.
  • Don't take the most demanding, winding routes, but approach them slowly.
  • For trips lasting several days, short to medium daily stages are ideal. Don't take on too much at once: Plan rest days for day trips without luggage or complete rest days.
  • Low traffic density in the destination country and avoiding large cities will help you build up your fitness, concentration and confidence in your own riding skills.

Equipment

The equipment for a motorbike route varies greatly depending on the length of the tour, the destination and your own preferences. However, there are a few things you should never do without, such as your motorbike, your helmet and safety clothing suitable for motorcycling. Your papers (identity card, driving licence, vehicle documents, if necessary the relevant papers for abroad) should also always be taken with you. In addition, a second pair of gloves, rain gear, high-visibility waistcoat, sunscreen and a camera should be included in your luggage. If you are planning a longer motorbike trip, it is advisable to make a packing list so that you don't forget anything. But remember: every item that you don't absolutely need only takes up unnecessary space, and you can get a lot of things on the way if necessary.

Before a route, you should always have your motorbike checked: oil levels, brake fluid and coolant, tyre tread and air pressure are just a few aspects that should be right for every route.
