Set off to discover Cap-Ferrat, on a quiet road surrounded by the most beautiful residences on the Côte d'Azur and the magnificent setting of the Cap-Ferrat peninsula.

A short diversions to the lighthouse at the southern end of the peninsula marks the entrance to the Villefranche roadstead. The port centre of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat is also worth a visit, making it an unforgettable stopover.

Also worth a visit on the way back is the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, one of the most beautiful Renaissance-style palaces on the Côte d'Azur, built on a summit of the peninsula between 1905 and 1912 by Baroness Béatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild. The museum gives a particularly vivid idea of what it was like to live in the home of a great art lover of the Belle Époque, who showed a particular attraction for the eighteenth century. The museum, which is open to the public every day, is one of the most visited sites between Nice and Menton.

BASIC RULES

-Choose a route suited to your physical condition and do not overestimate your abilities.

-Remember to carry identification and a number to call in case of danger

-Respect traffic lights

Preferably use cycle paths when they exist, otherwise a sign may require you to do so:
If the "cycle path" sign is square: you decide .
If it is round, you must use the lane .

-Respect the environment and other road users

THE RIGHT REFLEXES FOR RIDING IN A GROUP

-Riding two abreast is permitted, but you must keep to a single lane:

- at dusk or when visibility is poor

- when a vehicle wishing to overtake announces its approach

- At stop signs, yellow lights and fixed or flashing red lights, bring the whole group to a complete stop.

- Communicate within the group and use verbal language and body language to signal an obstacle or a vehicle. A simple gesture or word is all it takes to avoid a fall or an accident.

Destination

PORT LYMPIA - Panoramic starting point on the pavement at the corner of Place de l'Ile de Beauté and Quai Papacino

Turn-by-turn directions

  • From the panoramic viewpoint on the west side of the Place de l'Ile de Beauté, head down to the Port via the Quai des 2 Emmanuel. On the left is the Café du Cycliste, a meeting place for cycling enthusiasts.
  • Leave the quay by turning left into Rue du Lazaret and then right, following the signs for Grottes du Lazaret.
  • After leaving Bd Stalingrad, the route takes Bd Franck Pilatte, which overlooks the port where the ferries depart for Corsica.
  • Once you have passed the Square Théodore de Banville, the route takes a steep incline (Rue Jean Lorrain) to reach the Route de la Basse Corniche (RM 6098) at the top.
  • From here, turn right towards Villefranche/Mer. Don't forget to take a break on the cliff at the Princesse Grâce de Monaco viewpoint to admire the harbour of Villefranche and the Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat peninsula.
  • On leaving the centre of Villefranche-sur-Mer, a steep climb awaits cyclists. Once over this difficulty, the descent leads to the town of Beaulieu.
  • Turn right towards Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat on the RM 25.
  • The Tour du Cap is reached via a new steep slope, signposted on the right: Mairie - Hôtel du Cap Ave Albert 1er.
  • Once on the plateau, in front of the entrance to the stadium, take the Bd du Général de Gaulle in the direction of the Sémaphore to complete the 3.3 km tour of the Cap.
  • To get back to the starting point, simply follow the same route, with a variation at the entrance to Nice via the Bd Carnot.
