Château du Plessis-Macé
Originally built in 13th Century, this black slate and shale fortification was transformed into a grand country home during the 15th Century. The château features a flamboyant gothic style that can be seen in its impressive tuffeau stone (limestone) balcony and chapel (containing a rare gothic tribune). Visitors will appreciate the contrast between the elegant stately residence and the remains of the medieval fortress.

Château du Plessis-Bourré
Rising majestically from its wide moats, this fairy-tale castle, the setting for the film “Peau d'Ane”, is a masterpiece of airy, enduring harmony: that was how its builder designed it, and that is how is has remained for over 500 years. Its owners proudly present its genuine defence system, wide moats, four still functional drawbridges, and naturally, the stately apartments whose luxury and refinement are sure to appeal to visitors.

Château à Motte
Built out of earth and wood, this motte and bailey castle is the forerunner to the stone fortress. The Haie Joulain site represents a fortified stronghold from around 1000 AD. The raised earth mound is topped with a keep and the courtyard contains dwellings and farm buildings.

In the rooms of the Château des Ponts-de-Cé, over 600 headdresses are on display, alongside authentic costumes from the province of Angers. A world of lace, grace and charm dedicated to the women of Angers centuries of work where needle and thread, patience and art made the women of Ponts-de-Cé the most beautifully dressed in the region.

Apocalypse Tapestry
Made of wool using the low-warp technique and reversible, the tapestry currently measures on average 103 metres in length and 4.5 metres in width. This work, based on a 1st century A.D. manuscript (the visions of St John, the final text of the New Testament), illustrates the historical, social and political context of 14th century France, at the time of the Hundred Years War, of epidemics and famine.
