Hiking on Mallorca, the largest Balearic island, holds a colorful mix of well-developed and lonely, almost forgotten paths. There are still many quiet corners and wonderful panoramas to discover - away from the vacation crowds. From the northwestern mountain range Serra de Tramuntana, with the mighty Puig Major, over the Plà de Mallorca, the central part of the island to the sandy beaches in the southeast, the island presents itself scenically varied.

Hiker's Paradise Mallorca

The Spanish island of Mallorca is known to many mainly for its beautiful beaches and wild parties. But far from the tourist hotspots, the Balearic island has much more to offer - especially for hiking enthusiasts. Here you will find numerous fantastic hiking tours and circular trails that you can walk at your leisure. Mallorca has the right offer for all types of hikers: easy paths with few metres of altitude for beginners and families - or challenging mountain tours for adventurers.

When to go hiking in Mallorca?

Mallorca has pleasantly mild temperatures all year round. However, the spring and autumn months are particularly suitable for hiking, in order to avoid the heat or cold winds. In principle, however, beautiful tours can also be made in summer and winter.

Summit panoramas and wild gorges: the Serra de Tramuntana

If you are particularly keen on altitude, head for the Serra de Tramuntana in the north and north-west of the island. There you can climb Massanella, the second highest peak on the island, which offers magnificent views of the surrounding mountain peaks. The tour around the Tossals Verds massif is also challenging, leading through wild gorges and over rocky mountain ridges. The route through the Barranc de Biniaraix near Sóller is certainly one of the most beautiful hiking trails.

Further on, the route leads through wild gorges and over rocky mountain ridges.

A little further to the southwest, Valldemossa is a popular starting point for tours in the Tramuntana mountains. But it's not only the location that's wonderful, but also the town itself – some claim it's the most beautiful in Mallorca. The best thing to do is to see for yourself on your trip!

As a relaxed circular hike with children, an excursion to the Cúber reservoir is worthwhile. In the midst of the magnificent mountain panorama, you can let your gaze wander over the blue lake. The Cúber can be reached via the country road between Pollença and Sóller. From there, there is a wide network of hiking trails where even experienced hikers will find exciting challenges.

Unspoilt and species-rich: hikes in the north-east

While most hikers are drawn to the mountainous region of the Serra de Tramuntana, some areas in the northeast, such as the mountainous region of the Llevante, are almost considered insider tips. Here you will find barren hills as well as bizarre rocks and wetlands. The sand dunes on the beach of Cala Agulla are also worth seeing.

The flora and fauna, rich in species, also offer hikers surprises again and again. For example, the almond trees are already blossoming on Mallorca, while the snow is still falling in cold Germany.

Discovery tours in the centre of the island

Lower, but no less beautiful, is the centre of the island. On a hiking tour to the three monasteries in the Muntanya de Randa, you can visit the old complexes and stroll through the former monastery gardens yourself. North of Palma, the remains of the medieval castle Castell d'Alaró are worth a closer look. In the city itself, the 400-year-old canal Torrent de Sa Riera is one of the most popular destinations. In summer, the artificial river usually dries up completely, but in winter and spring, the water rushes through it all the more.

Coastal walks for the whole family

If you are traveling with the family, you should walk along the coast, because there is not only a lot to discover, but also always a bay where you can jump into the sea to have fun. Not far from Port de Sóller, a beautiful tour leads from Mirador de ses Barques to Cala Tuent through the typical Mediterranean landscape of the island. The slope is not too demanding and therefore suitable for small feet.

In the Parc Natural de la Peninsula de Llevant, a panoramic loop leads through the varied landscape with its rugged cliffs and secluded sandy beaches. On the hike, children can experience the wild nature of Mallorca playfully and up close.

In the south of the island, the Mondragó Nature Park is a wonderful hiking area that is particularly convincing with moderate hikes. Many kilometers of hiking trails lead along the coastline and from time to time to wonderful bathing bays. In addition to sturdy hiking shoes, you should also take your swimwear with you, for example to dive into the water in the bay Caló des Borgit.

An excellent route. Without the gpx track it could be difficult to navigate. So, follow the route exactly! We started and ended in Sóller.
