The 10 most beautiful alpine routes in the Holiday Region Hohe Tauern National Park

Goal in sight from the hut terrace: Wildgerlosspitze with Eisraute and north ridge (right)
Alpine Route · Krimml-Wald, Zillertal Arena
Wildgerlosspitze (NW summit)
Toprecommended route Difficulty III, 40°, AD moderate
3.5 km
8:30 h
950 m
6 m
Steep, impressive flanks with clearly delineated ridges above a (still) rather wild glacier. A striking ridge, visible from afar, which merges into the so-called ice ridge before the summit, in predominantly solid granite. This is how you could summarise the tour from the Wildgerlostal valley or from the Zittauer Hütte via the rarely climbed north ridge to the second highest peak in the Reichenspitz group. You will be rewarded with the feeling of having climbed a mountain under your own steam and in its original state: no access aids, partly pathless, you may have to find your own way on the glacier and there are no human remains on the ridge that would make it easier to climb. As you have to descend along the same route and the descent is therefore more difficult than the ascent, the summit only "belongs" to you once you are back at the bottom. (Attention: the track shown is only schematic!!!)

From the Zillergründl reservoir, an easy two-day high-altitude tour leads first to the Plauener Hütte and then through the ice-covered western flank, over the ridge in easy scrambling (max. I) to the summit of the Reichenspitze.
