This Oenorando will take you on a tour of the landscapes and the mosaic of caves, in IGP Pays d’Oc and IGP Coteaux de Béziers, which benefit from the maritime influences on terroirs of rolled pebbles, caressed by the local wind.

Turn-by-turn directions

  • From the car park, take chemin de Saint-Michel towards the Cave Coopérative and join avenue André-Palmade. Turn right and cross the Canal du Midi.
  • Turn left along the Canal du Midi, passing the floating tourist office. Continue along the towpath, which passes under the D64. Continue for around 650 m until you come to a bridge, recognisable by its rounded concrete structure: Cross the canal and, opposite the Cave Coopérative, return to the car park along the Chemin de Saint-Michel.
  • Turn right onto the D37E16. Turn right onto a road shared by motorists, mountain bikers and pedestrians. Cross the D37 (take care) and turn left onto the small road known as chemin des Rompudes. At the end, turn right as far as a crossroads.
  • Turn right through the vineyard. At the crossroads, continue straight ahead. Pass under the D64 (low ceiling tunnel) and continue until you reach a road; follow this straight ahead to reach the entrance to Villeneuve-lès-Béziers. Take the pavement along the main road, known as chemin des Salancs, and join the D37. Turn right at the roundabout and take the second turning on the right, heading for the town centre.
  • Turn left into the narrow rue Victor-Hugo and enter the old town of Villeneuve. Cross the Place de la Liberté (church, fountain), and follow the Rue de la Fontaine (numerous mansions and winegrowers' houses). After the square (police station, post office), turn left onto boulevard Frédéric-Mistral and reach a roundabout.
  • Turn right onto the Chemin du Pont Neuf. At the fork in the road, turn right onto chemin du Bourdigou. It passes under the A9 and leads to the Canal du Midi. Turn right, follow the Arièges lock and pass under the A9 again. Continue along the towpath and then the rue du Canal. Reach the bridge in Villeneuve-lès-Béziers.
