A beautiful ride around the byways and small country lanes of rural East Herts. This is a modified/improved route to my other 'Wareside loop' route. It cuts down the road section in the middle by quite a bit.Time - about 2-3 hours, mostly easy going.

Byway Number: Hordean 48 Terrain: Hard Mud / Gravel Level: Beginner Suitability: 4X4 Recommended This byway is open to all traffic however is surrounded by local livery yards and is used not only by 4X4's, it is also used by hikers, dog walkers and horse riders so we do recommend extra care is taken whilst on this track. On this Byway you will come across areas which have been over grown trees and bushes that has made the track a little thinner in places however it can still be driven if you are not to worried about bush rash. This track has a base layer of hard mud and gravel with little to no risk of getting bogged down and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for the first of road experience. _______________________ ADVANCE NOTICE. If you are going to be coming into tagdell Lane from the lovedean end please note that there is a step incline you will have to over come and after rain it might be more difficult will standard road tyres. _______________________ We hope you find all of this information helpful. Tagdell Lane is a great little track for those that would like to go off road but do not have the vehicle to go extreme, this track is great for the off road beginner with little to no risk of getting bogged down and stuck. The only thing I must say about this lane is due to over grown trees and bush it is extremely likely you will get bush rash on your paint work.

Easy route when dry around Herts. Can be muddy really when wet. Doable with big bikes with knobblies even when really wet. A couple of good up hills involved.

Some really excellent Green lanes with nothing too difficult. The Essex part of the route is superb - lots of long picturesque Green Lanes. Short Cottered Green Lane not always open.Miss out the bottom loop if you want to shorten it - a Buntingford start/end would be ideal.

Tricky for big bikes when wet, but well plotted route. Quite easy on enduro bikes. Thanks for sharing.
